Junior Holly Tankersley

BATON ROUGE – Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns senior first baseman Lacey Bertucci (Folsom, La.) and junior utility player Holly Tankersley (Kirbyville, Texas) were named to the Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-Louisiana Softball first team Saturday.

Bertucci finished her senior season with a .281 clip, 14 home runs and 44 RBI en route to first team All-Sun Belt accolades. She was a four-time All-Sun Belt selection and concluded her career with the second-most home runs (58) in school history. Her NCAA-leading 61 walks were a new single-season school record.

Tankersley batted a league-best .405 with 18 home runs and 61 RBI, earning NFCA All-South first team honors. Tankersley, a USA Softball Top 25 Finalist for Player of the Year, led the team in average, home runs, RBI, slugging percentage and on-base percentage. She also compiled a 12-5 record in the circle, while batting .431 with nine home runs in Sun Belt Conference play.

Freshman Brittany Cuevas (Brazoria, Texas) and sophomore Karli Hubbard (Lafayette, La.) were All-Louisiana second team honorees. Cuevas, the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year, led the Cajuns with a 31-9 overall record in the circle, while striking out a team-best 291 batters. She held the opposition to a .207 average at the plate, while tossing 10 shutouts and 34 complete games.

Hubbard, a redshirt sophomore, finished second on the team with a .322 average, while hitting .329 against Sun Belt competition. The first team All-Sun Belt outfielder hit .333 with a .417 on-base percentage against Top 25 teams in 2007.

Freshman third baseman Melissa Verde (Beaumont, Texas) was one of two honorable mention selections on the LSWA All-Louisiana Softball team. The redshirt freshman finished the season as the team leader in doubles (15) and triples (3), while finishing second in RBI (48), fourth in average (.299) and fifth in home runs (8).
