Softball: Cajuns to Travel to Baton Rouge for NCAA Regional

LAFAYETTE, La. – After finishing the season with an overall record of 43-13 and ranked 21st in the nation, the Ragin’ Cajuns softball program will head to Baton Rouge for the NCAA Regionals, hosted by LSU.

We are excited to be in the postseason,” head coach Michael Lotief said after Selection Show.  “This year we had to wait to see our name as an at-large bid.  This is why we work so hard and this is where we want to be.”

“This is a great opportunity for our kids to chase their dreams.” Lotief continued.  “The fact that we are an hour away is good for our fans, the environment is going to be electric and it will be a good environment for college softball.”

The Cajuns are making their 15th consecutive and 23rd overall appearance in the NCAA Regionals, hosting and winning it last season.

Joining the Cajuns in Baton Rouge is host, #9 LSU, first round opponent Northwestern State and Central Connecticut State.

The Cajuns will be taking on in-state foe Northwestern State at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, May 17 with LSU and Central Connecticut State following at 6 P.M.

The winner of the Baton Rouge Regional will take on the winner of the Ann Arbor Regional, consisting of host, #8 Michigan, Valparaiso, Central Michigan and California.

The Cajuns’ senior class will be making their second trip to Baton Rouge for the NCAA Regionals, winning it in 2010 before advancing to the Super Regionals against UCLA.

“We just want to put ourselves in the best position to be successful and continue on the road to our goal to winning a National Championship,” senior Brianna Cherry said after the announcement.  “It’s a little bittersweet that it’s my last year but just like all the other years we are continuing the journey on what we want to do and where we want to be.”

It is going to be a very good and very fan oriented regional,” Cherry continued.  “We are just down the road so a lot of our fans are going to come support us.  It’s going to be a really exciting regional and we want to go out there and give our very best.”

Ticket information to the general public for all-session books will be announced on Monday by the LSU Ticket Office.
