Softball: Cajuns Finish 8th in Postseason NFCA & USA Softball Polls

Softball – Cajuns Finish 8th in Postseason NFCA & USA Softball Polls

LAFAYETTE, La. – After making their sixth appearance in the Women s College World Series in school history and posting a 49-10-1 record, the Louisiana Ragin  Cajuns softball team was tabbed 8th in the postseason USA Today/NFCA Division-I coaches poll and ESPN/USA Softball polls, as announced on Tuesday.

Louisiana opened the year ranked 15th in the ESPN/USA Softball Poll and 13th in the USA Today/NCFA Division-I coaches poll.

The Cajuns  postseason run saw them defeating Texas Southern in the Lafayette Regional before toppling Texas in back-to-back games to take the regional crown and earn the right to host the NCAA Super Regionals.  In the Super Regionals, the Cajuns swept a best-of-three series against No. 14 Arizona, to advance to the WCWS in Oklahoma City.

In Oklahoma City, the Cajuns fell to No. 6 Kentucky in the opening round, 4-1, and then No. 4/5 Oklahoma, 3-1, in an elimination game.

The Cajuns lose just two seniors in Natalie Fernandez and Shelbi Redfearn, and will return seven of their nine starters from the 2014 campaign in 2015, including the Sun Belt Player of the Year, Lexie Elkins, the Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year, Christina Hamilton, and NFCA Freshman of the Year Finalist, Haley Hayden.
