LAFAYETTE-Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns softball team had a pair of players earn
Sun Belt Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week accolades.  Ashley Brignac
(River Ridge, La.) and Holly Tankersley (Kirbyville, Texas) were honored by
the conference for the efforts on the field last week.

The award is the second of the season for Brignac and the first of the year
for Tankersley.  The Cajuns swept the first Sun Belt Conference Player and
Pitcher of the Week awards of the year as Brignac and Melissa Verde
(Beaumont, Texas) were both honored.

Brignac made four appearances on the week, earning a pair of wins and a
save.  She led the Cajuns pitching staff at the 2008 Aggie Classic with a
0.60 ERA in three appearances.  Brignac worked 8.0 innings against No. 3
Texas A&M, allowing just one run en route to the victory.  Against the
Aggies, she struck out 11 batters, scattering four hits with just one extra
base hit.

Brignac entered the game against Illinois to record the final two outs of the
game.  She fanned two of the three batters she faced to pick up her first
save of the season.  Brignac pitched three innings in game two against
Illinois, striking out five Illini batters.  She scattered three hits and
surrendered just one unearned run.

Earlier in the week, Brignac pitched a complete game against Nicholls State.
Against the Lady Colonels, she worked 6.0 innings, scattering four hits while
striking out seven, earning the victory.

Tankersley led the Ragin’ Cajuns on the week with a .478 batting average. She
boasted a .739 slugging percentage and a .520 on base percentage. Tankersley
finished the week 11-for-23 with four runs scored and four RBI.

For the week she collected a double, a triple and a home run.  Her triple was
the second of the season and of her career, while the home run was her team-
leading eighth of the year.

Tankersley was 4-for-6 in two games against No. 3 Texas A&M with a double and
a run scored helping the Cajuns to a 2-1 extra inning victory in College
Station over the Aggies.

She went 2-for-4 with a triple and a home run in a 4-1 win over Illinois.

The Ragin’ Cajuns will take on IUPUI in a twin bill at Alfred and Helen
Lamson Ragin’ Cajuns Softball Park at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 11.
