A day after playing their final regular season game at Lamson Park, the Ragin’ Cajuns continue to rack up the Sun Belt individual honors as Gabriele Bridges and Ashley Brignac have been named Sun Belt Player and Pitcher of the Week.

The two John Curtis products helped lead the Cajuns to a 4-0 record on the week, including a three-game sweep of Sun Belt foe Western Kentucky, marking the Cajuns fourth sweep of the season.

Bridges, the Cajuns’ lone senior capped off the weekend with a 3-for-3 effort on Senior Day, with two doubles and two RBI.  She also started the week in fine fashion by hitting her third grand slam of the season in the Cajuns’ win over Northwester State.

The home run gave Bridges 21 on the season, tying her for the national lead.  It also moved her career total to 65, the 15th highest mark in NCAA history.  The three grand slams tie an NCAA single-season record while her five career grand slams are the fourth most in NCAA history.

Brignac got two wins in the Cajuns sweep of Western Kentucky, including a complete-game victory in UL’s only seven-inning game of the week on Saturday. Despite allowing two runs in the contest, Brignac kept the Cajuns bats in the game until they came to life in the seventh inning for the walk-off win.

The junior returned to start on Sunday and threw four innings of one-hit softball in the Cajuns five-inning win over the Lady Toppers.  The two victories move Brignac to 25 on the season, the most in the Sun Belt.

The Player of the Week honor is the third of the season for Bridges from the Sun Belt and the Pitcher of the Week award is the sixth for Brignac from the league.  The two have combined for 14 weekly awards, including an NFCA National Player of the Week award back in February for Bridges.

The Cajuns return to the field this weekend when they travel to La.-Monroe to close out the regular season with a three-game series.  They will return home on Wednesday, May 11 to host the Sun Belt Conference Tournament which wraps up on Saturday, May 14.
