Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns softball team used a five-run, fifth inning to stage a comeback en route to a 10-4 win over Middle Tennessee on Wednesday. The Cajuns had found themselves trailing, 1-4, before Lana Bowers came up big for the second time in as many days.

Bowers belted a three-run home run, her third in two days, to knot the score at 4-4. Before the inning was over, freshman catcher Sarah Draheim gave the Cajuns the lead for good with a two-out, two-RBI single up the middle.

Nine Cajuns accounted for UL’s season-high 17 hits. The Cajuns only recorded four hits through the first four innings. Five players finished with multi-hit performances.

The Cajuns now sit a 23-12 with a 5-1 mark in the Sun Belt. Middle Tennessee drops to 13-17 on the season and 4-8 in the league.

Bowers started the day where she left off on Tuesday in the first inning. With Erikka Murphy on second, Bowers drove a ball through the right side, scoring the speedy outfielder for an early 1-0 advantage.

The lead would not hold for long as Kelsey Dortch hit a one-out, home run to right centerfield to tie the game. The Blue Raiders were able to grab a 2-1 lead by the end of the inning, after two more hits scored another run.

Two more runs crossed the plate for Middle Tennessee in the bottom of the second inning on three hits.

The Cajuns had a chance to put a dent into Middle Tennessee’s lead in the top of the fourth. UL had runners on the corners after back-to-back singles by Nerissa Myers and Sarah Drahiem. But with two outs, MT’s Lindsey Vander Lugt sent the final out down swinging.

After the fifth inning, the Cajuns continued to build their lead in the seventh inning, adding four insurance runs. After Bowers hit another single, Gabriele Bridges homered to centerfield to give UL an 8-4 lead. Drahiem posted another RBI with a double down the left line, while Vallie Gaspard had a RBI-single of her own to head into the bottom of the inning, 10-4.

Bowers finished the day 3-for-4 with four RBI. For the series, the senior was 7-for-11 with three home runs, six RBI and four runs scored. She batted at a .636 clip and had a 1.545 slugging percentage for the series.

Draheim was 3-for-3 on the afternoon with three RBI and one run scored.

Bourgeois was the pitcher of record, improving 12-7 on the season. She is now 4-0/3-1 in Sun Belt play.  In seven innings, the Lafayette-native allowed seven hits, three earned runs, struck out two and walked two. From the fourth inning on, Bourgeois did not surrender a hit

Louisiana will continue playing on the road as the team will travel to Miami, Fla. to face FIU on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s double header is set to start at 1 p.m. CT.
