Soccer:Second-Half Surge Carries Louisiana Past SLU, 3-1

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns soccer team used two late goals to snap a 1-1 tie and defeat Southeastern Louisiana, 3-1, on Sunday evening at the Ragin’ Cajuns Soccer/Track Facility.

 

Louisiana (3-3) was led by senior forward Annika Schmidt, who had two goals, one of which gave the Cajuns a 2-1 lead in the 85th minute.

 

Freshman Erika Sierra recorded the assist on a short pass from the right side.
 
Ragin’ Cajuns senior forward Mackenzie Higgins sealed the game with a goal in the 90th minute off a deflection from SLU goalie Hope Sabadash.
 
SLU (2-3-1) scored first in the 50th minute on a goal from Maggie Ramsey off an assist from Casey Peacock.
 
Louisiana responded with a goal in the 61st minute when Schmidt scored on a breakaway goal off an assist from Sierra.
 
Ragin’ Cajuns goalie Cosette Morche recorded four saves while Sabadash had six saves for the Lions.
 
Louisiana returns to action on Friday, (Sept. 9) when it hosts McNeese State at 6 p.m. at the Ragin’ Cajuns Soccer/Track Facility.
