LAFAYETTE-Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns women’s soccer recorded their first shutout of the season en route to a 4-0 decision over in-state opponent Grambling State.  The victory over the Tigers marked the 100th career victory for head coach Scot Wieland.

The Cajuns got a goal from senior Stephanie Lynch one minute into the first half.  The goal was from 10 feet in front of the goal.  The goal in the top left corner of the goal was the second of the season for Lynch.

The goal would be all UL would need as the goalkeeping tandem of Kristen Malen and Stephanie Weston combined for the shutout.

Malen recorded the win. In her fourth start of the season, Malen recorded three saves in nearly 60-minutes of action.

Weston entered the match in the second half in relief of Malen.  Weston kept out a pair of attempts to preserve the shutout.

The Cajuns recorded three more goals in the second half to secure the victory.

Nineteen seconds into the second half, Heather Ulliman netted her first goal of the season.  The junior took a pass from Taylor Zak and slipped it past the GSU goal keeper to give UL a 2-0 edge.

Three minutes later, Kelli Jestes made the match 3-0.  The goal was her second of the season.

Sophomore Courtney Hofland finished off the scoring for the Cajuns.  Hofland scored her first goal of the season off of a Kat Bergeron pass in front of the goal.

The Cajuns recorded 30 shots on the night, including 13 shots on goal.  Comparatively, Grambling State took just seven shots with five shots on goal.

The Ragin’ Cajuns return to action on Sunday afternoon as they host the Houston Cougars in a match at 1:00 p.m.
