Soccer: Turner Lifts Ragin’ Cajuns To Victory Over Northwestern State

LAFAYETTE, La. – Senior Lexi Turner’s early goal lifted the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Northwestern State on Friday night at the Ragin’ Cajuns Soccer/Track Facility.
 
The Ragin’ Cajuns (1-1-1) extended their win streak in the series to six games against the Demons (1-2-0). Louisiana notched its first shutout of the season as junior keeper Mackenzie Lee posted four saves in the contest.
 
Northwestern State had a slight 10-9 edge in shots in the match. Turner, Kacie Pou and Savanna Young each had a pair of shots in the match for the Ragin’ Cajuns.   
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
Louisiana jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 6th minute when Telly Vunipola linked up with a wide open Turner who placed a perfect shot on the ground past the NSU keeper from just outside the 6-yard box.
 
Lee was tested just one time in the first half making a save just minutes after the Turner goal.
 
In the second half, both teams tallied five shots as Lee stepped up and made three big saves to capture the shutout.
 
Pou just missed extending the lead to two goals in the 63rd minute as her shot caromed off of the post just wide.
