Soccer: Soccer Set for Alumni Match

Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns soccer team will be happy to see someone other themselves on the other side of the pitch when they host their second annual Alumni Exhibition on Saturday at the Ragin’ Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility.

The 2010 edition of the Cajuns and a team of former Cajuns will kick off at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday evening.

Head coach Scot Wieland’s squad will return all 11 starters from last year’s team as well as five additional letterwinners.  Wieland has also added four freshmen to the 2010 roster in his sixth season at the helm of the Ragin’ Cajuns.

Courtney Hofland and Kelli Jestes, who are currently first and second on the Cajuns’ career goals scored list with 17 and 16 respectively, will each suit up for their senior season.  Hofland started four games in 2009, scoring two goals, before missing the remainder of the season due to injury.  Jestes started all 19 games in 2009 and scored four goals while tallying two assists.

UL will also welcome the return of last season’s leading goal scorer, sophomore forward Cayla Chatman.  The Houma, La. native scored six goals for the Cajuns last season, including four goals in UL’s final three games, picking up Honorable Mention honors on the All-Louisiana team as a true freshman.

The following former Cajuns will be lacing up the cleats once again for UL; Bridgette Adorno (’04-07), Meghan Crawford Breaud (’03-06), Lindsay Webb Cockrell (’03-06), Ashley Delahoussaye (’00-03), Heather Fuller (’07-08), Kat Bergeron Head (’05-07), Tina Nadolski Henderson (’04-05), Jenn Hungate (’05-08), Courtney Kelly (’01-03), Ainsley Breaux King (’02, ’04-05), Kerri Luyties (’04-07), Callie Oliver (’05-08), Rachel Rozelle (’02-03, ’05) and Meredith Smith (’02-05).

The Cajuns will start regular season action when they travel to McNeese State in one week on Friday, August 20.  The home-opener for UL is set for Sunday, August 22, at 1:00 p.m. against Mississippi Valley.

Three of UL’s first four matches will be played in the friendly confines of the Ragin’ Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility.  Also, the Cajuns’ ten home matches in 2010 will be the most since 2005, the inaugural season of the Ragin’ Cajuns Track/Soccer Complex, when they also hosted ten.
