Soccer Signing Class Grows with Addition of Three More

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns women’s soccer coach Scot Wieland announced today three additions to the program’s 2013 recruiting class. The Cajuns have added Jane Katz, Lindsay Brammer and Annika Schmidt to go along with the 13 student-athletes signed in February. The signings add two Floridians in Katz and Brammer, and Wieland’s first European recruit in Schmidt, who is from Germany.

Katz, a 5-7 midfielder from Boca Raton, Fla. served as the team captain on both her high school team at Stoneman Douglas High School and her club team, Team Boca Soccer Club.

She was also named to both the Miami Herald and Sun Sentinel’s All-County Teams. In the classroom, she has earned spots on the Academic Honor Roll, as well as the National & English Honor Society.

“Jane is a strong, technical player,” Wieland said. “She has a very good presence in the middle of the field. We are expecting Jane to compete at the attacking central midfield position.”

Brammer, a 5-5 midfielder from Boynton Beach, Fla. was also a member of Team Boca Soccer Club with Katz, and a fellow member of the Miami Herald All-County team.

“Lindsay is a quick, speedy outside forward and midfielder,” Wieland mentioned. “She brings a lot of athleticism to the program and we expect her to compete at this position as well.”

Schmidt is a 5-8 forward from Nufringen, Germany. A member of VFL Sindelfingen Bundesliga, she was named to the U13-U20 All-State Team, as well as the U15-U17 German National Team.

“Annika brings in a lot of experience from the German Bundesliga,” Wieland remarked. “She is a very technically sharp forward and will bring a lot to our offense tactically.”

Schmidt is the first European on the Ragin’ Cajuns soccer roster since Rose Clemensen, Mie Nielsen, Mette Olesen and Lotte Rasmussen, all of Denmark, were on the roster in 2004.

The 2013 Signing Class now includes five Louisiana natives, three Texans, three Californians, two Floridians, and one from Colorado, Michigan and Germany. The Ragin’ Cajuns will embark on their ninth season under Scot Wieland in August 2013.
