Soccer: Ragin’ Cajuns Blank Arkansas State To Cap Homestand

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns soccer team closed out its three-match homestand with a 1-0 victory over Arkansas State on Friday night at the Ragin’ Cajuns Soccer/Track Facility.
 
The victory moves Louisiana (3-7-2, 2-2-0 SBC) into a tie for third place in the Sun Belt Conference with six points in league play. The Ragin’ Cajuns picked up their third clean sheet of the season limiting the Red Wolves (5-3-2, 2-1-0 SBC) to just four shots in the match.
 
Sophomore goalkeeper Victoria Ryan notched her second shutout of the year with three saves on the night. Senior Sarah Kozlowski led the Louisiana attack with four of the squad’s 12 shots in the contest.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
The Ragin’ Cajuns held Arkansas State to just one shot in the first half as the game remained scoreless after the first 45 minutes of action.
 
Louisiana broke into the scoring column in the 66th minute when Julianna DeBlieux settled a pass from Lexi Turner and sent a shot from outside the 18-yard box over the ASU keeper into the back of the net for her first goal of the season.
 
Ryan turned away the only threat from the Red Wolves in the final 20 minutes of action kicking away a header shot from Victoria MacIntosh in the 86th minute to preserve the shutout and claim the victory.
 
UP NEXT
 
Louisiana heads on the road next weekend for a pair of conference matches starting Friday, Oct. 5 at 5 p.m. CT at Coastal Carolina. Following the matchup with the Chanticleers, the Ragin’ Cajuns head to Boone, N.C. for an 11 a.m. CT match on Oct. 7 against Appalachian State.
