LAFAYETTE, La. – For the fourth time this season, a member of the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns soccer team was named Player of the Week by the Sun Belt Conference office.  Freshman Yazmin Montoya was given the honor after scoring four goals in the Cajuns’ 5-2 victory over Texas State.

"I’m very proud of [Montoya], she has been working really hard and done a great job this season," Head coach Scot Wieland said of the freshman.  "[Schmidt] played well early on and got her goals and became a marked player,  Now they are complimenting each other and it’s helping Montoya strike it rich, and I’m proud of her."

It is the first time Montoya has picked up player of the week honors, and the fourth time for the team in 2013.  Four players of the week ties South Alabama for the most by one team in the conference this season.

"It’s such a great individual accomplishment for these players to be named as player of the week," Wieland said of having four this season.  "They have been developed this year because our team has worked well together.  Team chemistry helps those kind of individual things.  When a team is clicking and they are working together, players are allowed to score goals, so it is a team accomplishment in my book."

Montoya continued what has become a very good stretch during conference play, scoring her first career hat-trick in the first half of Friday’s game against Texas State.  She followed up her first-half hat-trick with a fourth goal in the second half, leading the Cajuns to a 5-2 victory.

The West Covina, Calif. native’s eight-point game propelled her to the team lead in points, also breaking the school record for points in a season, set earlier in the year by fellow freshman Annika Schmidt.

The Ragin’ Cajuns will finish up their regular season slate this upcoming weekend, with a Thursday game at South Alabama, before returning to the Ragin’ Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility for the regular season finale, and Senior Day against Troy at 1 p.m.
