Soccer: Montoya Becomes Cajuns’ All-Time Points Scorer in Loss

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns junior forward Yazmin Montoya entered the program’s record books on Sunday in a 2-1 loss to Appalachian State, collecting her first goal of the season to move into first place on the Cajuns’ all-time points list (53).

The Mountaineers spoiled Louisiana’s (8-8-2, 2-5-1 SBC) senior day, as Jane Cline put Appalachian State on the scoreboard first in the fifth minute, her seventh goal of the campaign.

The Cajuns came up with the equalizer in the 40th minute when Montoya beat Appalachian State goalkeeper Megan Roberson on a penalty kick.

The two conference foes went into halftime knotted at 1-1 and played a scoreless 38 minutes until the next score. The Mountaineers’ Jenni Loveless took a corner from the right corner and found Lindsey Tully who put the ball in via header into the right side of the net, giving Appalachian State a 2-1 lead.

Cajuns senior goalkeeper Lindsey Stocks made the start in goal, saving three shots.

Appalachian State’s Jane Cline was issued a yellow card in the 52nd minute.

Louisiana closes out regular season play next Sunday, Oct. 25 at ULM for a 1 p.m. first kick.
