BATON ROUGE, La.–Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns goalkeeper Kristen Malen has been awarded the Louisiana’s Sports Writers Association Women’s Soccer Player of the Week accolades for her performance on the pitch this past weekend.

Malen earned LSWA Goalkeeper of the Week honors following a weekend in which she made a total of 19 saves; including a career high 11 saves against North Texas on Sunday afternoon. This is the second time this season that Malen has recorded double-digit saves in a match.

The senior from Victorville, Calif., also registered eight saves in a 0-0 draw with defending Sun Belt Conference champions Denver on Friday night, which is the first time in school history that the Ragin’ Cajuns have shutout the Pioneers on the soccer pitch.

For the year, Malen has accumulated 49 saves and helped the Cajuns to three shutouts. She has logged nearly 1,000 minutes between the pipes with a 75.4-save percentage.

Malen was joined by Centenary’s forward Brittany O’Neal.

O’Neal was named the LSWA Soccer Player of the Week after scoring two goals and recording two assists in Centenary’s 4-1 win over Nicholls State on Friday.

The sophomore from Nacogdoches, Texas, also led the team with four shots and three shots on goal in a hard-fought 1-0 defeat at the hands of Oral Roberts on Sunday. O’Neal kept the pressure on opposing goalkeepers as she finished the weekend with 10 shots and seven shots on goal.
