First-year assistant coach looking to help secure first-ever Olympic berth for Haiti

Chelsea Surpris

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns assistant soccer coach Chelsea Surpris looks to punch her ticket to the upcoming 2020 Summer Olympics beginning next week when she competes with the Haiti National Women’s Soccer Team at the 2020 Concacaf Women’s Olympic Qualifying Championship.

The 2020 Concacaf Women’s Olympic Qualifying Championship will kick off with an initial group stage between January 28 – February 4. Group A matches will take place at Houston’s BBVA Stadium on January 28, 31, and February 3. Group B matches are set for January 29, and February 1 and 4, at the HEB Park, in Edinburg, Texas.

After group stage round-robin play the top two finishers from each group will move on to the semifinals. The two semifinal matches, which will determine the two qualified teams to the Olympics, will be played on Friday, February 7, at the Dignity Health Sports Park, in Los Angeles. The final match, between the semifinal winners, will also be played in Los Angeles, on Sunday, February 9.

Surpris, who joined the Ragin’ Cajuns Soccer program last October and helped Louisiana to a 9-8-3 record, took part in a 1-1 draw against Canada in a friendly on Monday.

After a four-year collegiate career at Texas, Surpris earned national and international experience beginning in 2011 as a USYSA U-14 National Champion. Surpris was a member of the USA U17 Girls’ National Team in 2013 and was an ECNL U-18 National Champion in 2014.
