NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Women’s Soccer defender Gwen Mummert earned her first postseason awards of the 2019 season when she was named to the All-Sun Belt Conference team, in voting by the league’s head coaches and released by the league office on Tuesday.

Mummert, a sophomore from Berlin, Germany, played center back on a Ragin’ Cajuns defensive line that helped produce the lowest goals against average (1.20) in school history and a five-match turnaround in the win column under first-year coach Lance Key. Mummert became the first Ragin’ Cajun to earn All-Sun Belt Conference honors since Yazmin Montoya in 2016 and was the first defender to be named first-team since Grace Howell-Harries in 2014.

She scored four goals with one assist in 18 matches during the 2019 season, posting goals against Northern Illinois, Nicholls, Coastal Carolina and Troy. Mummert, who finished the regular-season as the third-leading scorer for the Ragin’ Cajuns (9 points), added an assist against NIU.

Mummert played 1,679 of a possible 1,722 minutes on the season, including 938 of 949 in Sun Belt play. She tied a single-season, school-record with three penalty kick goals (vs. Nicholls, CCU and Troy) on the season.

Louisiana, the No. 7 seed, will open the Sun Belt Conference Championships on Wednesday when it plays Troy at 1 p.m.
