UL’s Kayla Henrie has been named co-Sun Belt Soccer Player of the Week as announced on Tuesday by the league office.

Henrie garnered the award for her performance last weekend against Southern Miss.

In the game, she scored two goals and registered one assist in a five point effort to lead the Ragin’ Cajuns past the Golden Eagles in a 3-2 overtime victory. A junior and native of Newport Beach, Calif., her second goal of the contest was an overtime game winner to give the Cajuns their second win of the 2011 season.

Henrie recently moved from center midfield to the outside and has seen great success. Both of Henrie’s scores came because of great positioning, allowing her to be in the right place at the right time to capitalize on opportunities.

“Kayla came to us as a center midfielder,” head coach Scot Wieland said. “We moved her to the right side because she sees the field so well and it has gotten her more involved in our offense. Her vision allows her to be in the right place at the right time. It is obvious by the result against Southern Miss.”

This is Henrie’s first POW honor of her career and makes her the first Cajun to win the award since Cayla Chatman was named as such last November for her two goal performance verses La.-Monroe.

The UL soccer team returns to action this Sunday as they play to the Lady Panthers of Prairie View A&M. Kick off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. with live stats and video-coverage available on RaginCajuns.com.
