Soccer: Cajuns Finish Unbeaten Weekend with Double Overtime Tie at Little Rock

Morche

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns soccer team overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit to earn a 1-1 double-overtime tie at Little Rock on Sunday afternoon.

The tie was the second of the season for the Cajuns (8-6-2, 2-3-1 SBC), who climbed a spot in the Sun Belt Conference standings with the unbeaten weekend.

Little Rock ran out to a quick lead in the third minute courtesy of a goal by Caitlyn Eddy.

Senior Caroline Trahan looked to even the match up in minute No. 33, but her shot was saved by Little Rock goalkeeper Sara Small.

Trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Cajuns finally broke even with the Trojans in the 60th minute when junior Taylor Kennedy kicked a pass towards the middle of the field to sophomore Ashleigh Cade who found the bottom right corner of the Trojans net. The goal was Cade’s third this season, while the assist was Taylor’s first of 2015.

The Cajuns came up empty on five shot attempts for the remaining 30 minutes of regulation and faced their second overtime affair in the past four matches and third overall this season.

In the 93rd minute of the overtime stanza, Cade’s match-winning attempt was saved by Small, keeping it deadlocked at 1-1.

Freshman goalkeeper Cosette Morche made a last-minute save in the 99th minute to help send the match into a second extra session.

In the second overtime, the Cajuns defense turned in a strong effort, stopping five shots by the Trojans, four via saves from Morche, who finished with 10 on the afternoon.

Morche (6-5-1) matched her career high with 10 saves. She leads the Sun Belt Conference with 82, while boasting a GAA of 0.97.

"I’m proud of the team this weekend, [conference] points on the road aren’t easy to get and they earned four," Ragin’ Cajuns head coach Scot Wieland said. "We were looking for solid efforts in both games this weekend and that is what we got from them."

Louisiana will return to action next Friday, Oct. 16 for a 7 p.m. first kick with Texas State, the first of the final two regular season home matches this season.
