MOBILE, Ala. – A strike by Alissa Jones 13 minutes into the second half lifted No. 2 seed Troy to a 1-0 victory over the No. 7 Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns soccer team Wednesday afternoon in the Sun Belt Conference Quarterfinals.

The Cajuns ended their season at 9-8-2, tying the second-most wins in program history, while Troy improved to 15-5 and will face third-seeded Texas State on Friday in a 4 p.m. semifinal.

Sophomore forward Yazmin Montoya placed each of her two shots on goal to lead Louisiana, while Jones led the Trojans with seven shots, three being on goal, and Abby Reynolds placed all five shots on goal. Troy held a 24-12 shot advantage and an 11-5 edge in shots on goal.

Troy goalie Mikki Lewis (15-5) earned the win, picking up five saves in the shutout. Junior goalkeeper Lindsey Stocks (2-1-1) suffered the loss, allowing the one goal while collecting 10 saves in the second half.

The Cajuns threatened several times in the first half with sophomore midfielder Natalie Newman and Montoya both putting shots on goal in the first 16 minutes of action.

In the 22nd minute, freshman midfielder Jorgie Smith almost gave the Cajuns an advantage but Lewis kept the ball from going past with her fingertips to keep it a scoreless match.

Late in the first period, Troy had two opportunities to go on top as Nicole Harris sent a wide-open shot high of the goal in the 38th minute before Jones’ shot hit the crossbar in the final minute of the first half.

Following Jones’ goal in the 57th minute, Montoya put her second shot of the day on goal but had it collected by Lewis to keep the Cajuns off the board in the 58th minute.

The Trojans were aggressive late in the contest as Stocks totaled eight saves in the final 12 minutes of play, while Louisiana was held without a shot in that time period to give Troy the victory.
