Soccer: Cajuns Blank Undefeated Lions 2-0Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns soccer team matched up with its second undefeated team in nine days on Sunday, and for the second time came away with a victory. UL (5-4-0) used a very fast start to defeat home standing Southeastern Louisiana, 2-0, handing the Lions their first loss of the season. Entering Sunday’s match, Southeastern was one of only 14 Division I teams without a loss in 2010. "This was a total team effort," said head coach Scot Wieland. "We played our game the entire 90 minutes. Road wins aren’t easy to come by and the girls stayed physically and mentally strong and did a great job today." The Cajuns had a very similar result last Friday when they defeated a then 4-0-1 Nicholls State squad, also by a score of 2-0. This time, the Cajuns two goals came very quickly, in the first 11:09 to be exact. Cayla Chatman got things started with 5th minute strike to put UL up 1-0. Kayla Henrie got the assist and the goal marked the third in four games for Chatman. UL kept the pressure on and it paid off in the 12th minute when senior Courtney Hofland scored her first goal of the season. Carleigh Martin got her second assist of 2010 and Hofland tied teammate Kelli Jestes for first place on the Cajuns career points list. Southeastern (6-1-2) would threaten the shut out midway through the second half, but sophomore goalie Amanda Moorefield made two huge saves for the Cajuns. With 22:38 remaining in the game, the Lions were awarded a penalty kick. Kelsey Salcido took the shot for Southeastern, but was stuffed by Moorefield. The rebound found its way to a Lion’s foot, but Moorefield kept that strike out of the net as well. The two shots in an 11 second span marked half of the Lions shots on goal as the Cajuns defense stood tough all day. Moorefield (5-4) played the entire 90 minutes in goal for UL, marking the second shutout of the season for Moorefield and fourth of 2010 for the Cajuns. The Cajuns outshot Southeastern 10-9 overall and 5-4 in the shots on goal category. Martin led UL with three shots and two shots on goal. UL now enters their first conference match of the season with a winning record for the first time since 2003. The Cajuns will host South Alabama at 7:00 p.m. on Friday and Troy at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. — Ragin’ Cajuns —
