Soccer: Cajuns Announce 2010 CaptainsLouisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns women’s soccer team announced the 2010 captains on Tuesday as senior Kelli Jestes and redshirt-sophomore Gayla Foster were chosen by their teammates to lead the squad this season.
Jestes has been a staple of Louisiana’s offensive power over the past three seasons. After a superb first two seasons, she kept up her scoring parade in 2009, adding ten points to her career total (38), the second highest in Cajuns history, behind only teammate Courtney Hofland (41). Last season, Jestes played in all 19 games, making 19 starts on the year.
Jestes is also second on the Cajuns career goals scored list with 16, one behind Hofland who currently sits at 17.
Foster sat out the 2008 and 2009 campaigns after suffering preseason injuries. During her freshman year she played in all 21 matches for the Cajuns, making 19 starts and was a part of a defensive unit that posted six shutouts.
The Ragin’ Cajuns soccer team will kick off the 2010 season on Friday when they travel to Lake Charles to take on McNeese State at 7:00 p.m. The Cajuns will open their home schedule on Sunday when they welcome Mississippi Valley to the Ragin’ Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility at 1:00 p.m.
