On August 23, 2003, Ron was honored at Yankee Stadium before a game with the Baltimore Orioles.  His uniform number was retired and presented with a plaque in Monument Park, which includes some of the greatest players to ever don a Yankee uniform like Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Mickey Mantle and Joe DiMaggio.  While Ron was the 16th player to have his Yankee number retired, Whitey Ford is the only other pitcher to have his number retired.

Guidry’s annual Golf Tournament helps the Winning Pitch Foundation support local charities on a year-round basis.  Special Olympics and ALS Foundation, as well as local charities such as the Acadiana Outreach Center and the Miles Perret Center have benefited from past events.

Two articles entitled "Lessons For Life From the Field of Dreams" were published in the January/February 2004 issue of SLEMCO Power.  The articles featured the Cajun Yankee: The Legacy of Ron Guidry and The Lessons He Learned Playing the Game He Loved.  The articles and many others about his life and acheivements are included in Ron’s profile (electronic scrapbook) in the Athletic Network.

Bruce Brown graciously allowed the Athletic Network to reprint the chapter on Ron Guidry in his 1980 book entitled "Prides of Acadiana"  and provided an update. Needless to say, Ron Guidry’s profile provides viewers with a most interesting electronic scrapbook.

The Athletic Network is honored to place the Spotlight on Former Athlete on Ron Guidry.

Note:  The Photo Gallery (left side of home page) at http://www.athleticnetwork.net  contains over 7,500 pictures of former and current athletes and support groups. Just point and click to view teams by years.  One click on the thumbnail picture and it is enlarged; a click on the enlarged photo and you are back to the thumbnail.

Contact the AN if you have a team picture for one of the years where voids exist.  The AN seeks to add pictures of each team for each year they represented the university.
