Ragin’ Cajuns Athletic Foundation: UL athletic celebration brings in over $150KDaily Advertiser, June 27, 2012 LAFAYETTE – In a first-of-its kind fundraiser, the Ragin’ Cajuns Athletic Celebration took in more than $150,000, exceeding organizers’ expectations. A group of local diehards and business leaders came together to host the inaugural celebration/fundraiser on Saturday, April 28, held at the Cajundome Convention Center. On Tuesday, June 26, representatives of the group of organizers gathered at the Cox Communications Athletics Center to present a check for the proceeds raised to University of Louisiana Director of Athletics Scott Farmer. “We were thrilled with the turnout, especially considering this was a first-time event,” said organizer Blaine Barrilleaux. “The support we received for this event truly shows Acadiana’s commitment to the Cajuns. We have already begun plans for next year’s event and hope to continue raising money to recruit and retain high-quality coaches for all of our sports programs.” The event, attended by an audience of nearly 1,200, was presented by Cal Chlor and Quality Companies, with more than 50 businesses sponsoring tables. Money was raised to support the Ragin’ Cajuns Athletic Foundation’s efforts to help the University attract and retain coaches, and to improve the University’s athletic facilities. On the heels of his 9-4 record in 2011 and New Orleans Bowl victory, Hudspeth’s salary was increased from $360,000 to $750,000. “I thank everyone involved, and not just members of the Ragin’ Cajun Celebration committee, but also the sponsors and all of the donors and everyone that came out and had a great time,” Farmer said. “It was truly a fun event and I’ve heard around town from the people who couldn’t be there for one reason or another and they are already looking forward to next year. “With over $150,000 raised to go towards our coaches supplement account, that is a great amount of money for us to start with, and its going to go a long way in helping our coaches.” Click here for the RCAF page for more information. ![]()
