Ragin’ Cajuns Announce TV NetworkRagin’ Cajuns Announce TV Network
The University of Louisiana Athletics Department and Cox Communications jointly announced on Thursday the start of the Ragin’ Cajuns TV Network (RCN).
The flagship for the Ragin’ Cajuns TV Network is Cox4, which will produce and air Ragin’ Cajuns football and men’s basketball games live in 17 Louisiana parishes to over 500,000 households. Cox4 will also replay the games twice on Monday (9:00am and 10:00pm). In addition, the games will replay on Cox Sports Television (CST) at a date and time to be determined by CST. CST has grown to over two million homes and is currently carried in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Virginia. UL athletics and Cox4, in partnership with the Sun Belt Conference, are examining delivery methods of game broadcasts to ESPN for inclusion on ESPN3.com and ESPN GamePlan. ESPN would show the games live nationwide, but face a blackout in the Cox 4 viewing area. The Ragin’ Cajuns and Cox Communications started their partnership in 2007, when Cox signed a 10-year, $2 million agreement for naming rights to the athletic complex. It was the largest sponsorship agreement in UL athletics history. Three years later, Cox donated computers to the student-athlete academic center, and in one year, during the Spring 2011 semester, the student-athletes posted their highest combined GPA in school history. "I want to thank Cox Communications for expanding our partnership," interim director of athletics Scott Farmer said. "(University President) Dr. Savoie is excited to have Ragin’ Cajuns athletics on television in three of the four biggest markets in the state. "This not only helps our coaches in recruiting, but greatly benefits our enrollment services to attract top scholars to this University." Three home football games will air on the Ragin’ Cajuns TV Network starting with the first home game of the Mark Hudspeth era on September 17 vs. Nicholls State. Kickoff is slated for 6pm. The October 1st game vs. Florida Atlantic (6pm) and homecoming on October 15th vs. North Texas (4pm) will also appear on RCN. "Our partnership with UL is another example of Cox’s long-term commitment to Acadiana," Cox Acadiana’s Director of Operations Julie Dronet said. "Cox believes in investing in the regional economy of Acadiana and we view UL and the Ragin’ Cajuns as major drivers in the success of the region. In addition to their economic impact, the Ragin’ Cajuns add to the quality of life in Acadiana by giving people access to collegiate teams that everyone can cheer about." The addition of three home television games now gives the Cajuns six live football broadcasts in 2011. The season opener at Oklahoma State (Sept. 3) will be on Fox College sports and games at Middle Tennessee (Oct. 29) and vs. La.-Monroe (Nov. 5) will be carried on the Sun Belt Network. Cox4 will produce and air one men’s basketball game for the RCN in 2011-12. That game has not been determined as of yet, but will likely be a home game at the Cajundome or regional road contest.
