Powerlifting Team Successfully Defends University Cup Title – Field Included LSU

Congratulations to the Powerlifting Team…repeat winners of the University Cup.  

The defending University Cup Champions, ULL’s Ragin Cajuns successfully reclaimed their title by competing against their rival LSU.

The Women’s team also accomplished an amazing feat by placing 2nd in the competition. The
Men’s team finished 1st. As a combined team the University of Louisiana at Lafayette finished the competition in first place disappointing any other teams there with hopes of taking the Cup home with them.

Two of ULL Powerlifters set American records: Mike Broussard of the 148 weight class broke the Collegiate American Bench Record by benching 380 pounds surpassing the previous record of 374 pounds; Sam Bennett of the 165 weight class broke the Teenage American Bench Record by benching 420 pounds.

Although the team performed extremely well at the Cup this past weekend, the team still has a
lot of hard work ahead of them as they embark on the road to nationals with hopes at becoming the 2009 Collegiate National Champions.
