Our Rich Basketball Heritage: One of Excellence

Our rich basketball traditions can be summed up in one word – Excellence

For Men’s Basketball consider the 42 years of photos in the photo gallery, plus the Shipley Reunion of 2001, the Basketball Reunion of 2003, and the Shipley Scrapbook. Beginning with the 1913 team photo, roster, schedule, and scores (Called Basket-Ball), through the 2006 team, many of the memories have been documented by word and picture in the AN photo gallery.

View the 1984 team at the Statue of Liberty while at the NIT Final Four in New York. Church, Ivory, Lamar, Toney, Grider, Brooks, Mouton, Stokes, Allen, Starks, Cameron, Wade, Mitchell and many more are available for your viewing.

For Women’s Basketball consider the 17 years of photos beginning with the 1904 team. The early sacrifices made by Linda Nance, Ruthie Dugal, Lisa Merritt, Ketra Armstong, Margy Bayard, Michelle Bourgeois, the Dangerfield twins, Shaunda Bedel, Brandy Falgoust, the Acker twins and many others were noteworthy. The play of Kim Perrot, Rhonda McCullough, Allyson Habetz, Sarah Richey Smith, Erika Gilbeaux DeGray, Bernie Tolston, Anna Petrakova, Yolanda Jones and strong supporting casts continued the tradition of excellence.

To take a trip down memory lane, please click on www.athleticnetwork.net  , Photo Gallery (upper left), team of your choice, year of your choice.  One of the goals of the AN is to document each player, for each sport, for each year.

The tradition continues:  Tickets for the Sun Belt Conference Basketball Tournament are now on sale.  The complete story is posted in the AN News.  Be there and watch the tradition continue.  Your support of the basketball program is appreciated.
