Robert Emmet (Bob) Vonderheide from Lafayette, La; beloved son and brother, peacefully passed away on December 15, 2015 at age 53. He was surrounded by loved ones and the thoughts and prayers of friends and family.
He is survived by his proud father, Vincent Vonderheide of Lafayette, LA; his two brothers John of Albuquerque, NM and Steve of Occoquan, VA; and his sister Marie of Harahan, LA. He is also survived by numerous, beloved family members, cousins, friends and Godchildren.
He is preceded in death by his loving mother, Jeanne F. Vonderheide (nee Hertlein).
Robert ( Bob ) was born on May 13, 1962 in Houma, LA. He graduated from Vandebilt Catholic High School in 1980 and from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1987 with a Degree in Agronomy. He built a successful career on his education and fondness of golfing. He accepted the position of greens superintendent at golf courses in LA, MS, FL and VA. Bob presently was serving as the head golf course superintendent at the Wetlands Golf Course in Lafayette, where he advised on the course from its inception with his expertise and dedication to the course. He was well admired throughout the entire golfing community in Lafayette and the Gulf Coast, including the Acadiana Cup Team and the Louisiana Open Board at Le Triomphe. Robert enjoyed his travels and exploring new places with friends and family. He won many golf tournaments, both locally and throughout the southern states. His golf skills enabled him to compete nationally and be a member of the USL golf team. And he caught many a big fish
Robert always enjoyed life, laughing and spending time with his friends and family. He will always be remembered as someone who genuinely cared for everyone and wished for their happiness. He will be missed greatly.
A funeral is scheduled for Robert on Saturday, Dec 19. There will be a visitation at Martin and Castille s Southside Lafayette location, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Pius X Catholic Church, (Kaliste Saloom Road, Lafayette) at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will host a gathering at their home following the burial.
All are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome donations to the Toys for Tots Foundation, since he enjoyed playing Santa for others.
