CARENCRO – Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at a 2:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for Kelly James Johnson, age 53, who passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014 at St. Martin Hospital in Breaux Bridge.

Interment will be in Evangeline Memorial Gardens in Carencro. The Rev. Gary Schexnayder, pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, will officiate at the services.

Readers will be Danielle Johnson, his Godchild, and Valerie Guidry. Giftbearers will be Kamron Westbrook and Lane Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was a native of Lafayette and a resident of Carencro for most of his life. He attended and graduated from Carencro High School Class of 1978 and was an avid supporter and fan of Carencro High School, U.L.L., especially in football and baseball, along with tailgating, cooking, and camping. He was a supporter of family and friends with Lafayette Parish 4H livestock program for many years. He was a former member and past president of Carencro Trail Riders for over 20 years and was a member of Woodmen of the World all of his life. Kelly was a machinist by trade, then an inspector at Baker Hughes for a number of years and was currently shop manager at Sunbelt Steel. He was a parishioner of St. John Berchman Catholic Church in Cankton.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Yvonne Hernandez Johnson of Carencro; one son, Jeremy James Johnson and his wife, Kristi, of Carencro; one daughter, Lacy Johnson Rozas and her husband, Kevin Rozas, II., of Biloxi; four grandchildren, Karson Rozas, Lane Johnson, Koi Westbrook, and Kamron Westbrook; his parents, Cliff Johnson, Jr. and Earline Guilbeau Johnson of Carencro; two brothers, Keith Johnson and his wife, Myra, and Kevin Johnson and his wife, Rena, all of Carencro; two sisters, Tina J. Bourque and her husband, Tim, of Duson, and Tammy J. Vidrine and her husband, Nicholas, of Carencro; two Godchildren, Danielle R. Johnson and Cory Domingue, both of Carencro; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Eugene Guilbeau and Inez Guillot Guilbeau, both natives of Carencro; paternal grandparents, Clifford Johnson, Sr. and Lita Latiolais Johnson, both natives of Church Point; father-in-law, John Allen "Bod" Hernandez; mother-in-law, Bella Prejean Altemus; and his Godparents, Edmond Benoit and Leonie J. Gautreaux.

A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home by Leah Guidry.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Tuesday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.

Pallbearers will be Cory Domingue, Lance Duhon, Kevin Rozas, II., Danny Hernandez, Keith Johnson, and Kevin Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Karson Rozas, Koi Westbrook, Nicholas Vidrine, and Timmy Bourque.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Eugene Guilbeau and Inez Guillot Guilbeau, both natives of Carencro; paternal grandparents, Clifford Johnson, Sr. and Lita Latiolais Johnson, both natives of Church Point; father-in-law, John Allen "Bod" Hernandez; mother-in-law, Bella Prejean Altemus; and his Godparents, Edmond Benoit and Leonie J. Gautreaux.

A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home by Leah Guidry.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. Tuesday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.

Carencro ~ Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at a 2:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for Kelly James Johnson, age 53, who passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014 at St. Martin Hospital in Breaux Bridge.

Interment will be in Evangeline Memorial Gardens in Carencro. The Rev. Gary Schexnayder, pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, will officiate at the services.

Readers will be Danielle Johnson, his Godchild, and Valerie Guidry. Giftbearers will be Kamron Westbrook and Lane Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was a native of Lafayette and a resident of Carencro for most of his life. He attended and graduated from Carencro High School Class of 1978 and was an avid supporter and fan of Carencro High School, U.L.L., especially in football and baseball, along with tailgating, cooking, and camping. He was a supporter of family and friends with Lafayette Parish 4H livestock program for many years. He was a former member and past president of Carencro Trail Riders for over 20 years and was a member of Woodmen of the World all of his life. Kelly was a machinist by trade, then an inspector at Baker Hughes for a number of years and was currently shop manager at Sunbelt Steel. He was a parishioner of St. John Berchman Catholic Church in Cankton.
