Obituary

 

ARMS John Philip Arms born January 10, 1939, died on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 in Dallas, TX. Beloved husband of Barbara Fischer Cothern Arms, and the late Ruby Roslyn Ramser Arms. Son of the late William Ernest Arms, Sr. and Marguerite Ester Weiman Arms. Father of Cheryl Llynn Pioli (John), Diana Noel Marsh (Robert), David William Arms, Brent Franklin Arms. Step father of Steve Cothern and Mike Cothern. Grandfather of Christopher Van Houten, Heather Van Houten, Jake Pioli, Arial Marsh, Destin Marsh, Trinity Marsh, and Robert Marsh, Jr. Brother of William Arms (deceased), and Dixie Bittenbring (deceased). Born and reared in New Orleans, Mr. Arms was a member of the former First Street Presbyterian Church. He attended Wright Jr. High School, Fortier High School, Tulane University, and graduated from University of Southwestern Louisiana with a degree in Education. He achieved his masters degree from LSUNO. While at Fortier High School, he was a four sport letterman, and a standout member of both the 1956 State Champions in basketball and State Runners-up in baseball. At Southwestern he quarterbacked the football team and was selected for Little All American honor. Mr. Arms was a retired Colonel in the United States Marine Corps, having served his country for over 28 years. Since his retirement he enjoyed his association with Job Corps in Colorado, and in Dallas he affiliated with the Christian non-profit Coaches Outreach ministering to high school coaches. Funeral services will be in Dallas, TX at 11 am Friday, October 2 at Redeemer Bible Church with reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall. Military Burial will be 10:30 am Monday, October 5 at the DFW National Cemetery. A memorial service will be conducted in Metairie, LA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to Coaches Outreach, 14140 Midway Road, Room 102, Dallas, TX 75244 are preferred.
