Obituary: Jamie C. Cappel – Band 1974-77 – September 24, 2014

 

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2014, at 2:00 PM in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers in Lafayette, for Jamie C. Cappel, 60, who passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at his home in Lafayette, surrounded by his family.
Interment will be in Fountain Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Reverend Ann Sutton, Pastor of Northwood Methodist Church in Lafayette and Lee Cooke of Asbury United Methodist Church in Lafayette, will conduct the funeral services.
Jamie was a lifelong resident of Lafayette. obtained a Bachelors Degree in Political Science and Music from USL (now UL-Lafayette) and a Masters Degree in Music from Northeastern Louisiana University (now ULM). He was a drum major at USL during his college years and went on to work at Lafayette Music Company, where he worked until his death. Jamie was very passionate about music and wanted to share his passion throughout the community. He was a natural leader, who founded the First Class Band, Lafayette Community Concert Band, Lafayette Music Band Camp, the Louisiana Showcase of Marching Bands and the Lafayette Music Drum Major Camp. He was active in the Skyliners and the USL Alumni Band. Jamie was an avid water skier and offshore fisherman, who loved the water. In all things that he did, he had a great vision and determination. He loved his family and always made sure to create wonderful memories with them. Jamie will be greatly missed by his family, friends and the music community.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Tina Henry Cappel; two children, Ross Cappel and his wife Amy and Brooke Fontenot and her husband Brian; one grandson, Henry Fontenot; and many loving friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Malcolm Cappel, Sr. and Billie Cloyce Cappel; and one brother, Malcolm Cappel, Jr.
Pallbearers will be David Rollins, Dave Hamilton, Robert O’Meara, Dawson Durbin, Jay Kimbrough, Howard Romero, Ken Brantley and Ronnie Crowley. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jim Goodman, Kevin Tyler, Ken Smith and his Lafayette Music Company family.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Friday, September 26, 2014, in Delhomme Funeral Home on Bertrand from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Visiting hours will continue on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Mr. Cappel’s name to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600, Suite 200, Johnston St., Lafayette, LA 70503 or on their website at
