Obituary: George J. Martin, Baseball 1955 & 56 – May 1, 2014

Obituary,George J. Martin  – 1935 – 2014  

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, May 5, 2014 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Scott, LA for George J Martin, 79, who passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 11:20 pm at Courtyard Manor in Lafayette, LA

Reverend Gil Dutel, Pastor of St. Edmond Catholic Church, will be Celebrant of the Mass and will conduct the funeral services.

Burial will take place in Sts. Peter & Paul Mausoleum.

George, a resident of Scott, LA the son of the late Alex Martin and the former Elbe Hernandez, was born on April 18, 1935 in Scott, LA. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps in the early 50’s. George worked most of his life in the Oilfield. He managed with the help of a friend to always claim Scott as home. Thank You Carl. George cherished the years he worked with Union Oil Company of California and the many associated friendships that were formed. But his true love and enjoyment came from the many years spent with Mona on the family farm caring for their small herd of cattle.

George would like to extend many thanks to Dwayne for the companionship and help on the farm. He would like to give an everlasting thanks to Gail for being the loving friend and companion that he so needed at a critical time of his life.

He is survived by his brother, Raymond A. Martin and his wife Gertrude; nephews, Tony and Lance Martin, Dwayne Martin and his wife Melanie; great nieces, Sarah Martin and Jessica M. Doxey and her husband Jacob; and his friend, Gail.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of forty four years Mona Martin.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home of Scott, LA on Sunday, May 4, 2014 from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm on Sunday evening in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue Monday, May 5, 2014 from 9:00 am until the time of service.

Pallbearers will be Raymond A. Martin, Dwayne Martin, Tony Martin, Lance Martin, Carl Hebert, Robert Sonnier. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gene Bacque, Ray Mouton and his card playing friends.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Acadiana 2600 Johnston Street Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503

The Martin Family would like to thank the Staff of Courtyard Manor Assisted Living Center and his care givers Melissa and Rhonda Comeaux for the care given in his time of illness.
