New Iberia – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM, on Monday, June 6, 2016, at St. Peter Catholic Church in New Iberia, for F. G. "Boogie" Mixon Sr., 85, who passed away on Friday, June 3, 2016, in Lafayette.

Entombment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery.

Rev. Gary Schexnayder will be the Celebrant.

A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary, led by Deacon Wade Broussard, will be prayed at 7:15 PM on Sunday. Visitation will continue on Monday from 10:00 AM until 1:30 PM.

Born in New Orleans and a lifelong resident of New Iberia, Mr. Mixon was born on March 4, 1931 to Tynes Emery Mixon, Sr. and Eugenie Decuir Mixon. He was a graduate of SLI, now ULL, where he played football for four years with great skill and enthusiasm, creating numerous records, some of which remained unbroken until recently, resulting in his induction into the ULL Football Hall of Fame. Mr. Mixon was the owner of T.E. Mixon Lumber Company and F.G. Mixon Construction Company. A member of the Port of Iberia Port Commission from its inception, serving for over 30 years and additionally serving as President, he had a deep devotion to helping our community develop. Mr. Mixon enjoyed fishing, traveling, and sporting events, however his greatest love was his family. He would often say that God had blessed him so much with a wonderful life and family. He leaves a wonderful legacy of love, respect, and appreciation for his family as well as friends and people in general.


Survivors include his special friend, C.C. Foreman of Lafayette; sons, Frank George Mixon, Jr. and wife Cathy of Broussard, Henry Hubert Scroggin Mixon and wife Melissa of New Iberia; daughters, Virginia Elise Mixon Simoneaud and husband Wayne of New Iberia, Stephanie Anne Mixon Trahan and husband Don of Broussard, Eugenie Decuir Mixon Haik and husband Morris of New Iberia, Elise Alverta Mixon Mestayer and husband Wade of New Iberia; sisters, Myrtis Mixon of San Francisco, CA, Margaret Mixon Trahan of Lafayette; brother, Tynes Emery Mixon, Jr. and wife Pat of New Iberia; sisters-in-law, Joan Scroggin Greco of Abbeville, Phallie Scroggin Sellers and husband Eugene Sellers, Sr. of Abbeville; 21 grandhildren; 41 great grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Tinker II.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife of 61 years, Elise Scroggin Mixon; daughter-in-law, Patty Broussard Mixon; sisters, Louise Mixon Pederson, Nancy Mixon; brother-in-law, Henry Hubert Scroggin; sister-in-law, Lorraine Scroggin Callier; brothers-in-law, David Greco and James Trahan.


Pallbearers will be six of his twelve grandsons.
