Bob was a native of Florida and received his PH.D. in Sociology from Florida State University. He moved to South Louisiana, where he spent 40 years at UL, Lafayette, helping thousands of students learn to love Sociology as much as he did.
Bob loved Louisiana. He believed it was a special, unique place where culture and environment interacted to produce a region rich in resources and opportunities, yet also full of potential for disaster.

Bob dedicated much of his life to studying the impacts this ultimately had in Louisiana. He wanted to make a difference and because of this he continually published books and articles on environmental/ energy, disaster dynamics and policy in coastal Louisiana throughout the years.

Bob was an avid fisherman and woodworker. He enjoyed cooking, hanging out with friends and family, and long discussions with colleagues. He loved jazz, the Blues, and going to all the great Festivals we have here in Lafayette.

He will be greatly missed by all the people who have known and loved him throughout the years

Bob is survived by his wife Eileen Daly of Lafayette, his sister Mary Baine Spooner, and her husband Hub of West Palm Beach Gardens, and his sister-in-law Patricia Alford Gramling of Tallahassee. He leaves behind two nieces, Kathryn Anne Chandler and her husband Donald, Mary Gramling and her partner Michelle Kinard; and two nephews; Robert Hub Sponner & his wife Tiffany, and James Gramling, Jr. and his wife Melissa, and his great nieces Valerie Anne Chandler, Camryn Grace Chandler, Juliana Justice Spooner, and Ava Grace Gramling

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Burke Gramling and Anne Gilchrist Gramling, and his brother Robert Burke Gramling.

Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and will continue on Monday from 1:00 PM until time of services in Martin & Castille’s DOWNTOWN Location.
