Diane Lastrapes Sibille

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary, Mother of the Church, for Diane Marie Lastrapes Sibille, 87, who died Friday afternoon, November 16, 2018, at Lafayette General Medical Center.

Interment will be in the Fountain Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Reverend Bryce Sibley, Pastor of Our Lady of Wisdom Catholic Church in Lafayette, will serve as Celebrant and conduct the funeral services, con-celebrated by the Rev. O. Joseph Breaux. Lectors will be Mary P. Sibille and Terry Richard and the Giftbearers will be her children. Jodi Bollich, accompanied on the organ by Linda Kidd and on the violin by Lauren Baker, will sing for the Funeral Mass "On Eagles’ Wings", "Psalm 23", "Ave Maria", "Be Not Afraid" and "Battle Hymn of the Republic".

Left to cherish her memory include her children, Mark Sibille, Keith Sibille and his wife, Mary, Gregg Sibille, and Kay S. Richard and her husband, Terry; six grandchildren, Dr. Joshua Sibille, Jennifer Sibille, Matthew Sibille, Andrew Sibille, Brian Sibille and Hannah Richard; and one brother, Dud Lastrapes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Q. Sibille; her parents, William Dudley Lastrapes and Gertrude Anne Schminke Lastrapes; and two infant brothers.

Diane was born in New Orleans, raised in Opelousas and has been a resident of Lafayette for most of her life. She was a graduate of UL Lafayette (then SLI) and was a member of the Red Jackets. Her favorite hobbies were playing tennis, bowling and playing cards. She taught herself how to crochet and was known for crocheting Christening blankets and distributing to friends and family. Diane was a volunteer at the front desk at Lafayette General Medical Center for thirty-two years, the longest standing member. She was a lifelong fan of the Houston Astros and the Ragin Cajuns.

Pallbearers will be her six grandchildren.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Dud Lastrapes, Bill Lastrapes , Ted Guidry and her lifelong friend, Catherine Maloney.

The Sibille Family would like to express their appreciation to Diane’s doctors, Dr. Michael Cain and Dr. Thomas Voitier, their staffs, especially Christen Poirrier and Allison Bertrand, and her caregivers, Shamara Kelley, Sandra Lively, Miranda Carron, Anna Babineaux and Martha Espree for the wonderful care and friendship extended through the years.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille’s DOWNTOWN location on Monday from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a Rosary to be prayed by the St. Mary’ Rosary Group at 6:30 PM. Visitation will resume on Tuesday from 8:00 AM until time of the services.
