Obituary: David Ardoin, University Supporter and FAN – May 8, 2015

David Ardoin

LAFAYETTE – Dave Ardoin passed away peacefully at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas on Friday, May 8, 2015, surrounded by family and friends.

Dave was born in Alexandria, Louisiana, on November 13, 1947. He is a graduate of Menard Memorial High School in Alexandria, Louisiana and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. From the day he walked on campus, he was a "diehard" supporter of the Ragin’ Cajuns and contributed to many UL endeavors, including establishing a professorship in the College of Business to support UL athletes. While in New Orleans, he was the President of the New Orleans UL Alumni Association. Family and friends always teased Dave who never lacked for Ragin’ Cajun red and black attire. He was so proud of his alma mater.

Dave retired from Pfizer in 2005 after a stellar 35 year career. He was named Senior District Manager, one of the highest honors bestowed by the company. After retirement, he divided his home sites between a beach house in Clearwater, Florida and a home in Lafayette, where he could be an active participant in all Ragin’ Cajun athletic events and the UL Athletic Foundation.

Dave was a devoted and involved family man and is survived by his wife, Jill, and children, Kathryn and Matt, who will miss him dearly. He is also survived by his devoted brother, Ken Ardoin, nephews Brett, Scott and wife Holly, niece, Michelle, and their mother, Annette, plus innumerable friends. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, F. Allen and Elizabeth Ardoin and niece, Shannon Ardoin.

Just days before his untimely death, Dave described his life as "living the dream." After retirement, he traveled extensively and took trips to Alaska, Turkey, the Canadian Rockies, the Baltic countries, Ireland and Scotland and the Cajun Congress. He was a devout Catholic and Eucharistic Minister.

There will be a Celebration of his Life on Tuesday, May 12, 2015. Visitation will be held at 2:00 PM at Our Lady of Wisdom Catholic Church, 501 E. St. Mary Blvd, followed by a Memorial Mass at 3:00 PM celebrated by Father Howard J. Blessing. Friends and family are invited to gather for fellowship at the UL Student Union Ballroom around 4:00 PM after the Mass. Honorary Pallbearers will be Brett Ardoin, Scott Ardoin, Dewitt "Zeen" David, Tim Webb, Danny Domingue and Dan McGhee.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Alumni Association, P.O. Box 40151, Lafayette, LA 70504-0151. A Celebration will also be held for family and friends in Clemmons, North Carolina and Clearwater, Florida at a later date. If you have any photos of Dave that you would like to share for the Celebration, please send them electronically to Brett Mellington at Brett.Mellington@lusfiber.net – See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/theadvertiser/obituary.aspx?n=david-ardoin&pid=174820799#sthash.gBMWCha3.dpuf
