Obituary: Charles D. Bernard – FAN – July 19, 2016Obituary for Charles D. BernardFuneral Services will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at a 2:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for Charles D. Bernard, 76, who died on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 from pancreatic cancer at his residence in Sunset surrounded by his family and friends. Reverend Monsignor Robert Angelle will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Elaine Foreman and Susan Kinniff. Giftbearers will be Judy Picard and Myra Tener. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 51 years, Karen Willis Bernard of Sunset and his special dog, Rascal; one sister, Genevieve Rozas of Eunice, LA; his godchild and nephew, Dr. Al Rozas of Jennings, LA; two additional nephews; four nieces; and his office manager and special friend, Judy Picard. He was preceded in death by parents, Rodney Bernard, Sr. and Genevieve deLassus Bernard; two brothers, Rodney Bernard, Jr. and Louis Edward Bernard. Charles was a 1961 graduate of USL and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a general agent with Transamerica Life Insurance Company for 50 years. He was an active member of the Order of the Troubadours since 1973 and was King Richard Coeur de Lion XXXVI in 1988. Charlie loved deer hunting at his lease in West Texas for 40 years with his special friends. He was an avid supporter of UL Lafayette sports, especially the softball team. Charlie cherished the time he spent with his family and friends and will be dearly missed by all. Honorary Pallbearers will be Butch Tate, Mark Mitchell, Rusty Savage, Terry Clark, Felix Horaist, Dr. David Rozas, Stan deLassus and Dr. Stephen Abshire. The family requests that visitation be observed at Martin & Castille’s DOWNTOWN location on Saturday, July 23, 2016 from 12:00 noon until time of services.
