Nelson Stokley
“COACH”
Coach Stokley was a standout quarterback at LSU. In 1967, he was named all SEC, sophomore of the year and most valuable player. Coach was the first recipient of the James J. Corbett Award. He coached football for over 30 years spending time at LSU, Virginia Tech and Clemson where he served as Offensive Coordinator when they won the National Championship. Coach Stokley finally returned home to take over the helm as Head Coach of the Ragin Cajuns where he spent 13 years! He helped lead them to two Big West Titles and in 1993 he had the nations #1 turnaround finishing 8-3. Coach lost his battle with Alzheimer’s last June but he will be remembered for his tremendous impact on Ragin Cajun Athletics!
Nelson dedicated his life to athletics. The proceeds generated will assist in the funding of the “Nelson Stokley Endowed Football Scholarship” which will be awarded to a child of a former Ragin Cajun student athlete who intends to play football at UL or to a student who played high school football in Louisiana and who intends to play at UL.
