Men’s Tennis:

Sophomore tennis player Jan Galka and his doubles partner had a terrific weekend placing second at the Wroclaw World Cup 2019 Tournament in Poland. The pair started their day upsetting the No. 1 seed in Krstev and Konecny from the Czech Republic in the first round (6-1, 2-6, 13-11).

Head Coach Mark Jeffery had nothing but positive things to say about his sophomore star, "This is a great effort by Jan and his partner to reach the final of a professional event," Jeffery exclaimed. "Defeating the number one seed first round will give them a lot of confidence moving forward."

The duo rode the confidence reaching the finals beating the pair of Lozon and Zakharov (Russia) in straight sets 6-2 6-2, and defeating the duo of Korvin from Russia and Prohidko from Ukraine, 6-3, 6-2. However, their run ended when they faced Zielinski and Zuk (Poland) in the final falling 3-6, 4-6.

Even though Galka and his partner placed second, Jeffery had high praise for the sophomore to-be. "Jan was the most improved player on last year’s squad.  He probably came in as the number three player but quickly rose to be our best player playing number one singles the whole year. His improvement is continuing this summer and I believe this is the furthest he has progressed in a professional event."

Galka had an impressive freshman campaign for Louisiana going 17-12 primarily playing as the No. 1 singles and was awarded a spot on the All-Sun Belt First Team. The Ragin’ Cajun Tennis team also had another successful season finishing the year at 21-10 with a 11-3 home record.
