Men’s Tennis: Murray Tabbed To Sun Belt All-Conference Team

LAFAYETTE, La. – Senior Carlin Murray became the first Ragin’ Cajuns men’s tennis player to be named to the Sun Belt All-Conference team since 2008, the conference office announced on Wednesday.

“Carlin has worked very hard for this honor,” head coach Mark Jeffrey said. “It is his time, and we look for him to lead our team into the Sun Belt Conference Championships. It is good to see Carlin gain the respect of the conference for his hard work and dedication.”

Murray became the first Ragin’ Cajuns player to be ranked in the ITA Singles National Rankings since Piotr Banas earned a national ranking and was named all-conference in 2008.

The Philadelphia, Pa. native came from behind to upset 14^th ranked Anthony Rossi of Kentucky ending his 16-game win streak.

On the season, Murray is 10-9 in singles play and has won his last four consecutive matches. 

Murray was also instrumental in the Cajuns first national ranking in five years as UL was ranked as high as No.47.

The third seeded Cajuns will face sixth seeded Troy in the first round at 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 19. The winner of the contest will move on to face the winner of the Middle Tennessee/Western Kentucky match.

The SBC Tennis Championships runs from April 19-21 with the championship match set for 3 p.m. on Saturday.
