Men’s Tennis: Men’s Tennis Defeats No.61 South Alabama at HEB Tournament

The Ragin’ Cajuns men’s tennis team got off to a good start at the HEB Tournament of Champions defeating No.61 South Alabama 4-1 in their opening match on Friday in Corpus Christi, Texas.
“I thought the guys were ready from the start today,” head coach Mark Jeffrey said. “We did a great job transitioning to singles. Hopefully we can come out and get a similar result in the semifinals.”
The Cajuns (6-4) are now 2-3 against ranked opponents with the win against the Jaguars.
In doubles play, UL swept USA wining all three matches by a final of 8-5.
Murray notched his third win of the week defeating Alex Bernard 6-2, 7-5 at No.2 singles. Yanick Mandl picked up a win at No.3 singles winning 6-2, 7-5, while Damian Farinola earned his second victory of the week and clinched the match for the Ragin; Cajuns at No.5 defeating Dauw Kruger 7-5, 6-2.
“Carlin Murray looked good for us again today,” Jeffrey said. “Both he and Yanick Mandl played strong and helped guide us to the win against a good conference opponent.”
UL returns to action at 4:30 p.m. today when they face No.63 Oklahoma State in the HEB Tournament of Champions semifinals.
