Men’s Tennis: Men’s TEnnis Claims 4-2 Win Over No. 65 A&M-Corpus Christi

The Cajuns (5-4) defeated a second ranked opponent in the last eight days

LAFAYETTE — Will Huyton earned a 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 win over Carlos Pedrosa Cuevas at No. 6 singles and the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns earned its second win over a nationally-ranked opponent in eight days after claiming a 4-2 win over No. 65 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday at Cajun Courts.

Edgar Lopez and Vlad Kramarov each picked up wins in singles play for Louisiana (5-4), while Lopez and Eric Perez teamed up to clinch the doubles point with a 7-5 win over Kevin Bettendroffer and Arthur Bedel.

"The good thing about today was that our doubles process is improving and the bottom of our lineup stepped up and clinched the match today," head coach Mark Jeffrey said. "I was really proud of the way Vlad, Will and Edgar stepped up today in singles. Eric Perez and Edgar hung tough to clinch the doubles point, and that was a confidence builder for those guys."

In doubles, the Cajuns duo of Arthur Libaud and Huyton defeated Mitchell Cook and Paul Cook, 6-2 at No. 3 before A&M-Corpus Christi (7-3) evened play at No. 2 as Guillaume Rauseo and Ricard Mayagoitia earned a 6-2 victory Jake Wynan and Coleman Wahlborg.

In singles, Lopez defeated Rauseo, 7-5, 6-1 at No. 3 to give Louisiana a 2-0 lead before the Islanders claimed the next two matches to force a 2-2 tie. Bettendroffer picked up 6-3, 6-3 win over Libaud at No. 1 singles before Paul Cook earned a 6-2, 7-5 win over Wahlborg at No. 5.

But Kramarov would claim a 6-3, 7-6 win over Bedel at No. 4 to give the Ragin’ Cajuns a 3-2 advantage and Huyton clinched the match by claiming his second three-set victory of the season.

"I think our team is improving and as long as we stay process-oriented in the big moments," said Jeffrey, "we can do some really good things moving forward."
