Men’s Tennis: Men’s Tennis Advances In Doubles At Southern Regionals

BATON ROUGE, La. – Ragin’ Cajuns junior Arthur Libaud and sophomore Jamie Fraser, paired together in doubles, won in the doubles main draw round of 32 to move onto Sunday’s round of 16 at the 2017 ITA Southern Regionals.
           
Sophomore Elio Lago, having been on a four-match winning streak, fell in the singles main draw round of 32 to end his great run in the tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Main Draw Doubles Round Of 32): After having won their round of 64 match on Friday, Libaud and Fraser faced off against Nicholls’ Sasha Podgrusky and Val Guyot.  The Cajuns duo came out strong and held off any rally that the Nicholls’ pair tried to put together and they won the match 8-4 to head into Sunday’s round of 16.
           
Lago and freshman Pierce Gilheany, having joined their teammates in the round of 32 with a win of their own on Friday, lost their match, 8-1 to Auburn’s Carlos Sarrio and Diego Chavarria.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Main Draw Singles Round Of 32): Lago, who was on a tear working his way through the qualifying portion of the tournament, had won his first match in the main draw on Friday to make it into the round of 32.
           
In the round of 32 Lago faced off with Ole Miss’s Tim Sandkaulen.  Lago couldn’t keep his run going, and he fell in straight sets 6-3, 6-1, to end his great run at the main draw championship.

UP NEXT FOR THE CAJUNS: In the doubles round of 16 the Cajuns duo of Libaud and Fraser will face off with Ole Miss’ Fabian Fallert and Tim Sandkaulen with the match scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
           
Libaud will take the court again in singles as he’ll take on Tulane’s Hamish Stewart in a main draw singles consolation second round matchup.
