Men’s Tennis: Men’s Tennis 2012-13 Fall Signing Class Tabbed Top 15 1/23/12

The Ragin’ Cajuns men’s tennis program saw its 2012-13 Fall Signing Class receive a Top 25 ranking after being tabbed in a tie for 15th with Indiana in the Tennis Recruiting Network Top Men’s Classes 2012 Winter Rankings, the Tennis Recruiting Network and Smith Stearns Tennis Academy announced on Monday.

“I can’t tell you how proud I am to have one of the Top 15 recruiting classes for 2012-13 among some 350 tennis programs across the nation,” head coach Mark Jeffrey said. “First of all I really have to say that working with the players and parents of the new incoming class was a real pleasure for me. The new recruits are so proud to be Cajuns, and to be part of a special recruiting class is something great for our University and program.”

Signing with the Cajuns in the fall were Hunter Johnson, Jake Wynan, Hunter Goertz, Coleman Wahlborg and Yates Johnson.

Jake Wynan has already made an impact for UL posting a 1-2 record in singles helping the Cajuns to their first win of the season against Prairie View A&M.

Hunter Johnson, Hunter Goertz, Coleman Wahlborg and Yates Johnson are all slated to join the squad in the fall.

“I know that this is a total team effort,” Jeffrey added. “Something like this is only possible because of commitment by President Dr. Joseph Savoie.  Dr. Savoie has done amazing things for this University in such a short time. A big reason we were able to secure this class was because of housing improvements on campus, the faculty, athletic administration, facilities, and much more.”

The Cajuns are 1-2 on the young season after facing two Top 15 programs in the opening weekend, and open the home season on Feb. 4 against UTSA at Cajun Courts.

“I also wanted to thank our Director of Athletics Scott Farmer, who I personally know works around the clock trying to make our Athletic Department a better place,” Jeffrey said. “There are so many people to thank, so I just want to say thank you.

“I truly envision this program to be among the elite, one of the top 25 nationally some day. That takes a certain work ethic, commitment, and vision to stay on track that I feel we can accomplish here.”
