Lopez earns All-SBC honors in singles/doubles for third straight season; Libaud named second-team All-SBC in singles

NEW ORLEANS – Senior Edgar Lopez earned All-Sun Belt Conference honors in both singles and doubles for the third straight year while Arthur Libaud was named the league’s Freshman of the Year to help pace the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns men’s tennis team as the league office released its 2016 All-Sun Belt Tennis Teams on Thursday.

Lopez, who earned All-SBC honors in both singles and doubles the past two seasons, was named a first-team selection in singles and joined teammate Eric Perez in being named first-team All-SBC in doubles.

The senior, who has combined for a 100-61 record in singles and doubles in his career, finished 14-4 on the season in singles play and won eight of his last nine decisions heading into the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. He opened the season posting a combined 7-2 record at No. 2 and No. 3 singles before moving up to the No. 1 slot where he went 7-2.

Lopez teamed with Perez to post a 17-6 overall record in doubles play, including a 2-0 mark in Sun Belt play. The duo earned wins over doubles teams from three nationally-ranked programs while claiming their last seven decisions on the court and 14 of their last 15 matches.

Libaud, who earned second-team All-Sun Belt honors, finished 12-5 overall in his first season with the Ragin’ Cajuns, playing primarily in the top half of the lineup. The native of France helped Louisiana claim a 4-3 win over nationally-ranked North Florida on Feb. 9 after clinching the match with a 2-6, 7-6 (6-2), 6-4 win over Julian Bradley at No. 2 singles.
