Men’s Tennis: Farinola Named To All-Louisiana Second Team
LAFAYETTE, La. – Damian Farinola was named to the all-Louisiana second team in an announcement made by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) over the weekend.
It is the second such honor for Farinola, who earned all-Sun Belt Conference first team doubles this season along with partner Edgar Lopez, and the doubles team of Coleman Wahlborg and Jarred Wynan. He was also named to the all-Louisiana second team at the conclusion of the 2013 spring season.
"Fitting to end Damian’s career with this accolade. This is a guy that worked extremely hard throughout his career and deserves everything through hard work," Louisiana head coach Mark Jeffrey said.
Farinola and Lopez won five times at the top doubles spot in the lineup, including a pair of wins over nationally-ranked tandems. Their biggest win came on March 22 against Texas Tech’s duo of Soares/Dojas who was ranked No. 24 in the country at the time. .
The senior from Adelaide, South Africa, also posted a winning record on the singles side with a team-high 13 singles wins, including two wins in the SBC Tournament in helping the Cajuns reach the semifinals.
Farinola did most of his damage at No. 3 singles, posting a 7-1 record at that spot in the lineup, while also picking up three wins at No. 1, two wins at No. 2 and a win at No. 4.
