LAFAYETTE, La. – Recent Ragin’ Cajuns men’s tennis standout Rick de Groot achieved his first world ranking in doubles after making the semifinals of the Netherlands F1 Futures this month, while junior Damian Farinola moved his ranking inside the top 1300 ATP after a strong performance in Turkey.

A 2014 first-team All-Sun Belt doubles selection, de Groot has achieved a world ranking of 1548 ATP as he collected 8 ATP points for his efforts at the Dutch Futures event.

"Rick will keep exceling in doubles he was one of our most decorated doubles players in program history,” head coach Mark Jeffrey said. “I believe Rick will make the top 300 ATP in the next two years if he keeps at it."

Also last week Farinola, a second-team All-Sun Belt doubles honoree, made the finals of the 10,000 Futures event in Turkey picking up 12 ATP points in doubles play.

"Great effort from Damian continuing our strong tradition in doubles,” Jeffrey added. “It shows that our system in doubles is really helping these guys on a world stage and that is the goal is to eventually have one of these guys play main draw in a grand slam.  We are not too far away."
