Men’s Tennis: Cajuns Selected To Play In 2015 ITA Kick-Off Weekend

LAFAYETTE – Coming off its first trip to the NCAA Championships since 2006, the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns men’s tennis team was one of 60 teams from across the country invited to compete in the 2015 ITA Division I Men’s Kick-Off Weekend.

The event, scheduled for Jan. 23-25, 2015, will see the Ragin’ Cajuns facing defending national champion USC in Los Angeles, Calif. Also scheduled to compete in the Los Angeles region will be UNC Wilmington, ranked No. 50 in the final 2013-14 ITA rankings, and Santa Clara, ranked No. 56.

The 15 schools that win both of their matches at the four-team regions will be invited to play in the 2015 ITA National Team Indoor Championship, scheduled for Feb. 13-16 in Champaign. Ill., and hosted by the University of Illinois.

The invite to the 2015 Kick-Off Weekend is the second in school history for Louisiana and the first since 2013 when the Ragin’ Cajuns competed against Miami (Fla.) and East Tennessee State in the Columbus region, hosted by Ohio State.

"Being selected as one of the top 60 teams to represent the University is a big honor,"  head coach Mark Jeffrey said. "This is the second time in program history that we have been selected and it is great to have the University of Louisiana back in the national spotlight and to compete for national championships."

"Playing against the No. 1 team in the country and defending national outdoor champions will be a great challenge for our players.  We now play six nationally-ranked teams in the month of January, so this will really get our season off to a quick start and prepare us well for the Sun Belt Conference Championships."

Louisiana, which finished 20-5 last season, claimed the Sun Belt Conference regular-season and tournament championship and appeared in the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2006.
