Men’s Tennis: Cajuns Outlast SMU, 4-3CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Coming off of a loss in the semifinals of the HEB Tournament of Champions, the Ragin’ Cajuns men’s tennis team picked up a hard fought 4-3 victory over SMU in the third place match on Saturday at the HEB Tennis Center.
Louisiana (10-3) won the doubles point for the fifth straight contest with wins on courts two and three. Rick de Groot and Jake Wynan teamed up to defeat Alex Sanders and Nate Lammons at the No. 2 position, 8-5, while Edgar Lopez and Damian Farinola came out on top 8-6 against Tony Russell and Julio Olaya at No.3.
After already picking up a point on court six due to a default, the Cajuns got their third point of the match from de Groot as he got the best of Mischa Nowicki on court two, 6-4, 6-0.
The Mustangs (6-7) picked up wins on courts one, four and five to even the contest at 3-all.
Lopez pulled out the match for the Ragin’ Cajuns at the No.3 position defeating Sanders 6-4, 7-6.
The Cajuns return to action on Monday at 2 p.m. when the squad heads to Memphis, Tenn. to face the 27th ranked Tigers at The Racquet Club. Following the match, Louisiana will return to Cajun Courts to host George Washington on March 11 at 3 p.m.
