Men’s Tennis: Cajuns Move To No.70; Wynan Brothers Regionally Ranked

LAFAYETTE, LA. – After a very productive fall, the Ragin’ Cajuns men’s tennis team jumped up one spot in the ITA Division I Men’s Rankings coming in at No.70 nationally, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced on Thursday.

"2012 saw us ranked inside the top 75 for much of the year which has really helped our program gain national and international recognition," head coach Mark Jeffrey said. "We look forward to getting the guys back and working on a variety of things to help them get ready for the upcoming season.

“I know this group has worked very hard in the gym, it takes a team effort and our gym staff has really stepped it up this year. The guys have to stay hungry, preach fundamentals and keep improving everyday.”

The Cajuns also saw both Jake and Jarred Wynan earn regional rankings marking the first pair of  regional rankings for UL since 1999.

“Having two guys ranked regionally in the top 20 speaks to the hard work both Jarred and Jake have put in this past fall,” Jeffrey added. “Both guys also have well over a 3.0 average and are prime examples of the complete Student Athlete.”

Jake leads the way coming in at No.12, while Jarred is seven spots back at No.19 in the ITA Southern Singles Rankings.

Jake went 7-2 in singles competition this fall including winning his flight at the Cardinal Classic. Like his brother, Jarred also had a strong showing in the fall going 10-4 in singles. Jarred got the Cajuns off to a good start after winning the consolation draw at the HEB Intercollegiate.

Louisiana gets the 2013 spring season underway on Jan. 26-27 when they head to Columbus, Ohio for the 2013 ITA Men’s Kick-off Weekend. The Cajuns will face Miami (Fla.) on Jan. 26. UL then faces either Ohio State or ETSU on Jan. 27.
